Following literary preparatory studies and a dual education in law and art history (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University), Alexis trained at Bird & Bird, a leading international law firm in technology and intellectual property, and at Temime, one of France’s foremost criminal defence firms. In 2013, he established his own practice in Paris, dedicated to advising French and international clients across the art market and the creative sector. He has since developed and consolidated further areas of expertise in publishing law and equine law.
His practice is particularly renowned in the secondary art market, where he advises and represents clients in authenticity and attribution disputes, criminal and customs matters, AML/CFT and ownership claims involving works of art. He regularly handles both domestic and cross-border matters for French, Belgian and international art market professionals.
Alexis advises and represents clients seeking both robust legal expertise and an in-depth understanding of these highly specialised fields, united by a common focus on human creativity and the preservation and transmission of works, assets and legacies.
Since 2018, he has written a monthly legal column on the art market for the French edition of The Art Newspaper, following more than five years as a contributor to Le Journal des Arts.
His commitment to passing on knowledge is also reflected in an extensive teaching practice. He lectures to artists at institutions including Ensad and Beaux-Arts de Paris and through artist programmes such as Artagon and Poush. For more than ten years, he has trained an entire new generation of French auctioneers and has taught future art market professionals at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and Paris-Panthéon-Assas University (art market law, copyright law, contract law, AML/CFT and criminal law dedicated to the art market).
Alexis’s expertise, particularly in art market law, is recognised by The Legal 500 and Décideurs Magazine. He is also a member of The Art Lawyers Association and the Institut du droit équin.
