Simon Rolin, Partner

Simon Rolin became a partner at Fournol & Associés in 2026, having worked alongside Alexis Fournol since 2020. His advisory and contentious practice is dedicated to creators and stakeholders across the cultural sector.

Simon holds a law degree, supplemented by specialist studies in art market law and taxation, as well as a degree in art history. He trained with several organisations at the intersection of art and law, including the Comité professionnel des galeries d’art and the legal department of the Palais de Tokyo. He also worked at Borghese & Associés, a law firm specialising in the art market, and at Normand & Associés before joining Fournol & Associés in 2020.

Simon advises French and international clients comprising creators, including artists, authors, designers and architects, artist estates, cultural institutions such as museums, art centers and foundations, and other stakeholders across the creative industries and the art market, including galleries, art advisers and publishers.

He also advises public and private sector partners, including local authorities and property developers, on artistic commissions and the management of their artistic assets, including public artworks and collections.

His practice focuses primarily on contract law, copyright law and civil litigation. He negotiates and drafts a broad range of agreements, including commissioning, production, publishing and rights assignment agreements, advises on the management and enforcement of copyright, and represents clients in civil and commercial disputes.

Simon also has significant expertise in taxation and non-profit law, enabling him to advise museums, foundations and patrons on the structuring of cultural and philanthropic projects.

Since 2025, he has written a bimonthly column for Le Quotidien de l’Art and has contributed annually to Gazette Drouot since 2022. His commitment to sharing knowledge is further reflected in his regular teaching and professional training activities. He lectures on art market taxation in the Master’s programme in Art Market Law at Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University and at EAC Lyon. He also delivers training for artists and provides legal advice to writers and publishers through Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Livre et Lecture.

Simon is a board member of the association that operates the Consortium Museum in Dijon. In that capacity, he advises the association on the full range of legal issues involved in managing a contemporary art museum.

Simon’s expertise is recognised by The Legal 500. He is also a member of the Institut Art et Droit.

Within Fournol & Associés, he is the principal contact for matters involving artists and artist estates, as well as architecture.
